Micorbits and their use at STEM education and innovation center

What are MicroBits?

Microbits are small, programmable devices designed to introduce beginners (and, in our case, students) to the world of coding. The BBC developed Microbits in 2014 and launched them in 2016. Specifically, A Micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer featuring an array of features and components that can be used to program and code various things

Learning and application use

Micro:bits, with their versatility, can be programmed using various languages, including Microsoft Makecode, Python, and many other coding languages. The device can be used to program almost anything your mind can think of. Students can create anything from a simple digital name tag to games to even smart home devices, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. The possibilities are endless, inspiring students to think outside the box and create innovative solutions.

STEM EIC use in our curriculum

Micro:bits are used in our programs to assist in our goal of teaching STEM concepts to our students. Micro: bits encourage students to think creatively, collaborate with fellow students, and learn about coding. While Micro: bits are easy to learn, they are hard to master and enjoyable for students of any age or experience level. The collaborative nature of using Micro: bits fosters a sense of community and engagement among students.

Conclusion

Micro: Bits represents an exciting entry point into coding and electronics for young learners, and we are thrilled to be using them at STEM:EIC. By blending education with creativity, they empower the next generation to explore technology and develop essential skills for the future, and we are excited to see what our students create.
